Château La Lagune is an organic winery in the Haut-Médoc AOC on the left bank of the Bordeaux region. Château La Lagune, an 18th-century villa, is the closest 1855 classed growth to the Bordeaux, on the D2 road (‘la route des châteaux’), travelling north from the city. 

Owner: Jean-Jacques Frey since 2000. La Lagune is run by Mr Frey’s daughter Caroline Frey. The Frey family also own Paul Jaboulet Aîné in the Rhône and Château Corton C in Burgundy. The previous owner was Jean-Michel Ducellier of Champagne Ayala from 1961.

Classification: 1855 3rd Growth. The highest placed Haut-Médoc, and the southernmost estate in the Médoc region as a whole to be classified.

Vineyards, Terroir: Light soils comprising sandy gravel.

Certification: 2016 Full organic certification from the 2016 vintage. | 2017 Still certified (11 2017).
