Il Molinaccio di Montepulciano is an organic winery and watermill in the Montepulciano region of Tuscany. The watermill was already present in the old maps of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany. The original building was restored from 2012 by Alessandro Sartini and Marco Malavasi and is now an agritourism bed and breakfast (see below).

Rosso di Montepulciano DOC and Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOC red wines are produced.

Sustainability: The estate purifies its own well water and makes it water self-sufficient. Solar panels cover all the estate’s energy needs. Guests with electric vehicles can have their batteries charged for free.

Vineyards: 3.5ha of vines in the Cervognano area of Montepulciano. 300m. Pliocene sand, fossils. 100% grassed. Cover crops include mustard, broad beans, and Egyptian clover (2020).

Certification: 2018 First vintage with full organic certification.

Winery: Cement and stainless steel tanks.

Red wines

L’Allocco, Toscana Rosso IGT: 2018 13.5% alc. 85% Merlot (6m in oak), 15% Sangiovese. 3,000 bottles.

Rosso di Montepulciano DOC, Il Golo: Named after the Eurasian golden oriole (Oriolus oriolus) or simply golden oriole, a bird. It is the only member of the oriole family of passerine birds breeding in Northern Hemisphere temperate regions. It is a summer migrant in Europe and western Asia and spends the winter season in central and southern Africa. | 2015 100% Sangiovese. Nice simple crunchy red fruit (Anteprima 2017). | 2018 15,000 bottles. Mainly clear fruit, but with some green notes (Anteprima 2020).

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, Il Molinaccio, La Spinosa2012 Debut. | 2013 90% Sangiovese, 10% Merlot. 15m in botti. Well put together (Anteprima 2017). | 2015 Bright, savoury, well-weighted (Anteprima 2018). | 2016 Well made, soft, sappy, bright (Anteprima 2020).

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG, Il Molinaccio, La Poiana: 2012 Debut. 100% Sangiovese. 25 months in Allier oak.

Grappa di Vino Nobile: Distilled at the Nannoni distillery.

Il Finocchiaccio: An alcoholic infusion of wild fennel harvested on the estate. Made by Capalbio Liquor.
