Terre di Giotto is a Biodynamic estate winery in Vicchio in the province of Florence (Firenze) in the Tuscan Apennines. It was created by Michele Lorenzetti (speaks English, French, Italian).

Background: Michele Lorenzetti was born in Frascati (RM = Roma) on 9 July 1971. In 1998 he gained an Honours Degree in Biology from the Università Tor Vergata in Rome. In 2000 he began learning about Biodynamics from Carlo Noro in Labico on the outskirts of Rome. In 2002 he gained a degree in Viticulture and Oenology from the Università Tuscia di Viterbo in Viterbo. He then started working at the Poggio le Volpi estate winery in Monteporzio Catone in Rome, initially in the laboratory and then as head of production. He then moved to Tuscany to work with Agricosulting S.p.A, a specialist consultancy for Biodynamic farming. In 2014 he established his own consultancy business and planted his own vineyard which he called Terre di Giotto (‘Land of Giotto’, Giotto being a medieval painter and architect from Florence who died in 1337 aged around 70).

Vineyard: Terre di Giotto comprises 1.2 hectares (2.9 acres) of vines on a piece of land totalling 3-hectares (7.4 acres) at Località Gattaia in Mugello in Vicchio in the province of Florence (Firenze) in the Tuscan Apennines, on Tuscany’s border with the Emilia part of Emilia-Romagna. Planted from 2006.

Grape varieties: Chenin Blanc, Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Riesling, all from mass selections.

Certification: 2012 First vintage with full Demeter Biodynamic certification.

White wines

Gattaia: 2014 IGT Toscana Bianco. Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Sauvignon Gris. Very good traditional style white (Demeter Austria, Vienna 26th February 2018).
