Maritime Pine (Pinus pinaster) has a reddish-brown trunk and dark foliage of rigid, spiny leaves of up to 25 cm long. A western Mediterranean tree, it is often planted on dunes to prevent erosion. Resin is extracted from incisions in the bark.
