Provence–Alpes–Côte d’Azur is the administractive name France gives to what was the historic region of Provence. It comprises the départements of Alpes-Maritimes, Hautes-Alpes, Alpes-de-Haute Provence, Var, Bouches-du-Rhône, and Vaucluse. Provence–Alpes–Côte d’Azur is bounded by the Occitanie region to the west, and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes to the north. The region also is bounded by Italy to the east and the Mediterranean sea to the south. The capital is Marseille.
